Are there other "non-civil" sections that may be better suited for line items such as "1 - 75mm conduit concrete encased" per lineal metre, or "install BC Hydro supplied Visa Manhole"?

I'm writing to inquire about cracking that may occur in concrete curbs and sidewalks (MMCD section 03 30 20). Specifically a spec regarding the severity of a given crack. In section 03 30 20, 3.17.1 states that cracked gutters or sidewalks are to be replaced.

Does this mean any and all cracks that are found? For example a hair line crack is to be replaced? Or at what severity or range of the crack determines that the section of curb or sidewalk is to be replaced?

Here is a typical note for our Developers, Contractors, and Engineers in the deficiency list for a project.

“Complete all concrete repairs. Sidewalks and driveway letdowns shall be removed and replaced if any crack or defect is present. Curb and gutter sections with more than one crack shall be replaced from joint to joint, no half section repairs are permitted. For sections of curb and gutter with only one crack, crack injection filling is permitted by Tykon, Bondtech or Confill.

"Any separation that is wider than the thickness of a dime is considered as a crack. When there are 2 or more cracks between expansion joints, the section of curb shall be removed.”

Specification 32 91 21 2.9.6 Table 1 says that where the specified chemicals are present in the fertilizer, they must meet or exceed the stipulated minimum percentage of the chemical in the fertilizer . The specification was derived from the BCLNA BC Landscape Standard 2008 (7th edition), copies of which are sometimes held by public libraries. This would probably be the most appropriate reference to seek information about other permissible constituents of appropriate fertilizers. Suppliers may also confirm which fertilizers meet MMCD specification 32 91 21

Seeking clarification of clauses 31 11 01 3.3 and 3.4, clearing and grubbing.

A disagreement arose with a contractor regarding the interpretation of clauses 31 11 01 - 3.3 and 3.4. We believe clearing and grubbing of an existing tree stump includes complete removal (uprooting) of the stump not less than 200mm below existing ground. The Contractor believes that the work includes only the grinding of the stump down to 200mm below grade. They then buried the remainder of the stump underground. Unfortunately, the roots started growing in a private driveway shortly after and causing damages. Can you please clarify if the original intent of the clauses were to completely uproot the stump, or to partially leave the stump behind?

Clearing refers to the removal of all vegetation, while grubbing is the removal of roots that may remain in the soil. This includes the removal of all logs, brush, and debris, as well as grinding and removal of stumps.
