Developing specifications for different jurisdictions: Do you recommend that we develop our own supplementary specifications as a crown corporation?

QUESTION

We are looking to adopt the MMCD documents for civil works projects related to our developments [in] BC. Since we work in many different jurisdictions, is it recommended that we develop our own supplementary specifications as other fixed owners (e.g., municipalities) do? If we should develop our own supplementary specifications, then what are some considerations that we as a crown corporation, should be aware of?

COMMENT

There is potential for each local government to have locally based supplementary specifications that reflect their individual preference for infrastructure details like street lighting, sidewalk/bikeway configuration, etc. As a result, MMCD would recommend that you request a list of compatible supplementaries (if any) from each jurisdiction, before issuing tenders for public infrastructure. The basic MMCD specifications and standard drawings will be a good basis for the core requirements of a contract. Adding local supplementaries to a local contract will ensure compatibility.
